1999/2000 STUDENTS INTAKE
Applications are invited from suitable candidates for the following courses offered by St. Augustine University for the 1999/2000 Academic Year beginning 1st September 1999. Non-residential as well as residential students will be accepted.
BACHELOR OF ARTS IN MASS COMMUNICATION
This three-year Bachelor's programme covers the full range of media and journalism studies with emphasis on both professional and academic aspects. While preparing the student for employment in news reporting, broadcasting, or public relations, it examines the role of the media in modern society and places emphasis on research, planning and management. All the University's media facilities, including the radio station and computer centre, are involved in the student's professional training.
BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Planned to begin in 1999, this three-year programme stresses both professional and academic cxpertise. It leads to the CPA as well as the MBA and offers specialisations in either Accounting and Finance, Marketing, or Human and Material Resources Management.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA COURSE IN
ACCOUNTANCY
A three-year course that provides high level education in professional Accountancy. Upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to sit for the NBAA's Professional Level III examinations.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN MATERIALS MANAGEMENT
A three-year course that provides high level education in the field of Materials Management. Upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to sit for the NBMM's Professional Stage III examinations.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN JOURNALISM
This three-year course is designed to produce competent media personnel who may be employed as public relations officers, news reporters and editors, press officers, broadcast personnel, social communications coordinators, or specialists in related fields. Students will receive state-of-the-art training in the new audio and television studios as well as the University radio station, Radio SAUT FM 96.1. Journalism and Mass Communication students use desktop publishing in producing their weekly newspaper.
CERTIFICATE COURSE IN ACCOUNTANCY
This is a one-year course to train students in basic accountancy techniques.
CERTIFICATE COURSE IN HEALTH ADMINISTRATION
A one-year course to provide trainees with sufficient knowledge and expertise to administer small to medium-size health facilities.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and Bachelor of Business Administration
In addition to an O-level certificate with passes in five approved subjects, the applicant must have an A-level certificate with
either Two Principal passes in appropriate subjects at the same sitting, with a total of five points or more on the scale: A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1, S=0.5, F=0,
or Two Principal passes in appropriate subjects not at the same sitting, provided they are of C level or higher,
or An appropriate equivalent Diploma or Certificate of not less than 2nd Class/Credit Level and approved by the Academic Senate.
Note: Candidates from countries with an 8-4-4 system of education will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Mature age students (25 years or older) must have obtained at least five (5) passes and three credits in approved subjects, including English, in their Ordinary Level education and should have four or more years working experience in a relevant field.
Advanced Diploma Courses in Accountancy and Materials Management
1. An Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with at least two Principal passes. Candidates must have passed English and Mathematics at Ordinary Level Certificate.
2. A few places are made available to Ordinary Level candidates holding the NBAA's ATEC or NBMM's National Storekeeping Certificate, or their equivalent, who have relevant work experience of not less than four years.
Advanced Diploma in Journalism
1. An Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with at least two Principal passes, one of them preferably in English Language or English Literature.
2. A few places are made available for Ordinary Level candidates who hold a First Class Certificate in Journalism from a one-year programme in a recognized institution and have relevant work experience of not less than two years.
3. Mature age candidates will be considered if they possess an Ordinary Level Certificate with three credit passes, including English Language, with relevant work experience of not less than four years.
Certificate Courses
Candidates must have an Ordinary Level Certificate with at least three credits, two of which must be in English and Mathematics.
Note: Good competence in English is required of all candidates. Applicants should be prepared to take a qualifying test in English and Mathematics.
